Professor Magnus Lane, a friend of Dick Young’s, lends him a property in Cornwall. During his stay, he volunteers to be a test subject for a new medicine found by Magnus during his scientific investigation.

When Dick drinks Magnus’ potion, he discovers that he has accomplished the impossible: he has traveled through time while remaining stationary, and has been thrown all the way back to Medieval Cornwall. The effects of the combination wear off after a few hours, but they are addictive, and Dick is powerless to resist his newfound abilities. Dick comes to despise the days he must spend in the modern world as his voyages lengthen, yearning ever more ardently to return to his world of centuries ago, and the home of the lovely Lady Isolda.
