AI Overview
The term “Mandela Effect” describes when large groups of people share identical, false memories (e.g., The Berenstain Bears spelled as “Berenstein” or the Monopoly Man’s monocle). [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Data analysis of search engine traffic and online communities highlights specific periods of high activity and quiet spells for these collective memories. [1]
Peak Periods (Maximum Activity)
- Late 2010 to 2016: This was the boom era of the phenomenon. It surged after the death of Nelson Mandela in 2013, which prompted viral online discussions connecting shared false memories to “parallel universes”. [1, 2, 3]
- Mid-2016: Data from forums indicates a mass breakout in interest, centering on film discrepancies like the missing braces on Dolly in the James Bond movie Moonraker. [1]
- Late Summer/Fall: Online interest in the Berenstain/Berenstein Bears and movie misquotes historically sees minor spikes around the start of the school year. [1, 2]
Trough Periods (Minimum Activity)
- 2020 to 2026: In the years following its initial viral spread, the overall search volume and mainstream forum activity significantly declined. [1]
- Explanation: The concept has largely transitioned from a “mystery” to a known psychological topic. Cognitive scientists attribute the decline in public shock to an increased awareness of how memory works, including source-monitoring errors and how social reinforcement solidifies false information. What I find most interesting about this is, the person who once posted images of Jiffy, a black & white of JFK in the smaller "similar to the one in the Dearborn museum, they also posted a few pics proving they were real, gave an explanation for why they were real… mentioned that the next peak of Mandela effects would be 2020 & 2025, he mentioned that the one back then “peak” was the greatest peak of them then, a lesser peak would happen till around last year then… it would die down again & did not mention any further!
@Apocalypse, if I remember correct, you mention something about a time traveler leaving notes, that once they traveled through time they would forget I believe. Is it possible that memories works different that expected possibly when time travel & changes are involved?
Next & den…
Lets say, a time traveler would/could/did remember the changes possibly. Leaving out society in general.
What would account for that?
Because Titor did remember the difference between his & this one, or… would it have to be the same branch/timeline he left & returned to… to have the effect you mentioned in your post, & if so why & how if you do think it is so, if you do not mind repeating yourself.
Would he remember why he left to get IBM once he got back with it, would anyone else remember there “those from his branch he left that still remembered why he even left” & what causes a time traveler to forget again?
Forgive me, I can’t remember where you posted it, or… I would have re~read it first, before posting the questions… I ask.
If that theory was wrong, could it be we may not understand the effects time travel actually has on the brain/memories/consciousness “one part, or… all arts” as a whole yet?
Why might that be that he didn’t forget?
What are some possible other side effects it could have on a human brain, if any… then?
