Message from 2036

wasn’t planning to post here.
I’m aware of how this sounds, so I’m not asking anyone to believe me.
I’m currently in 2026. My point of origin is 2036.
I was told not to interfere with this timeline, but I need to verify something before I leave.
I’m looking for information about an IBM 5100. Specifically, I need to know whether anyone here has access to one or has documented its hardware in detail.
There are other things I could tell you, but predictions are useless when you’re dealing with divergent timelines.
Ask your questions. I’ll answer what I can.

Can’t you use a IBM 5100 emulator or smt in the future why need the actual hardware?

Hello J_Titor2036, welcome to the forums… I am QS. :waving_hand::upside_down_face:

Not to sound silly, but… can’t you still ask your grandfather?

If you are an actual time traveler named John Titor then you will need to continue into the past and time travel to circa 1975 in order to acquire the IBM 5100.

Of course, the records are on this forum where you posted here around the year 2000. This forum appears to be a temporal nexus where time travelers converge and there are several versions of you who have become bitter rivals with each other.

There are a couple of brilliant scientists also here (one is Trapper ND) that are very worried regarding this convergence, and they are warning us about a possible tear in the fabric of space-time that could destroy our branch of the multiverse.

All of these time travelers have me slightly worried also. We can hope that several of them could be fakers, which is a major stress relief.

I suspect that John Titor (and you?) is a technician but not an engineer with deep knowledge of temporal mechanics. You were seriously grilled back in 2000 and many people say that you appeared to be legitimate.

Thank You Cosmo.

I understand the questions.
Yes, we have emulators in 2036.
That’s not the reason for the 5100.
The problem isn’t simply reproducing the software. Some of the work I’m involved with requires the original hardware architecture and its microcode. An emulator can reproduce an environment, but that doesn’t mean it reproduces every hardware-level behavior we need.
As for my grandfather… if things were that simple, I wouldn’t have needed to come here.
I realize that isn’t a very satisfying answer.
But there are things about my family, my mission and the 2036 that I can’t discuss without creating problems for this timeline.

PALM (Put All Logic in Microcode)?

I am not sure exactly what you are looking for.

https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/800117.803802

you may also need this?

some extra info to look into

if this is not enough let me know I will dig more when free.

Edit added: what I mentioned you may need Bit saver. Good luck & if can help… I am far from a resident expert on any of this.

try to ignore the lead of the topic… it has useful info & more than I know.

Anyway even below the post, the conversations may have more useful info. :+1:

Hope things are getting better for you. :hugs:

@J_Titor2036 There are probably a few different ways I could help you, but what you asked for is not one of them.

@J_Titor2036 I do have a question though for when you get back.

Is it not easier to find a decent livable timeline instead of always trying to have to create what you feel needs to be?

I mean if it takes 1000 jumps to fix a certain timeline I think I’d use that time to instead figure out which timeline im going to win the lottery in and then bring about my change that way.

Because obviously something has to change to break the loop but who governs what it is that has to change?

Edit: Sorry, I just realized I posed this post like you were the one in charge.

You assume the objective is to find the best timeline.
It isn’t.
A timeline isn’t something we choose because we like it better. Every jump creates consequences, and most of them aren’t visible from the point where you arrive.
As for the lottery… that’s exactly the kind of thinking that causes problems. You wouldn’t just be changing your own circumstances. You’d be taking an outcome that belonged to someone else and replacing it with your own.
The question of who decides what has to change is harder.
We don’t.
At least, we aren’t supposed to.
We identify the divergence we’re looking for and try to move toward it. Whether that divergence is actually an improvement is something nobody can know from inside the timeline.
That’s why 1,000 jumps wouldn’t necessarily get you closer to the answer.
Sometimes the smallest change is the one that matters.

@J_Titor2036 I had this lengthy response typed up but decided to erase it.

I’m honestly here just trying to make conversation.

See what if any useful information towards my own cause I may be able to get out of you.

@J_Titor2036 So the objective isn’t a better timeline? What may I ask is the objective then?

I believe your (generic Titor identities) time machine descriptions may not be fully coherent with regards to its concepts of “microsingularities”.

And the concept of a timeline may be somewhat problematic. For the past few months as I have been seriously investigating time travel and its applications I have come to the conclusion that Everett’s multiverse may be not quite right.

Instead of linear timelines, we can picture time as being more akin to a nonlinear network.

Thank you Apocalypse “I wish I was better at helping in this area” for trying to figure out the mystery, with the missing “mysterious” elements/knowledge we still need…

Hey!, this is another question, do you know when the eminence in shadow movie and season 3 releases? I know it’s a silly question…

But I would like to know.

Too late. By posting, you interefered with the timeline.

I’ve been away for a while.
I didn’t expect this discussion to still be here when I came back.
I read your theory about time being a network rather than a collection of separate timelines.
You’re closer than you probably realize.
But there’s one problem with treating the branches as independent paths: they aren’t.
We used to describe them that way because it was easier to calculate. “Timeline” is a convenient word, not necessarily a description of what actually exists.
The term microsingularity is also misleading. What we were looking at wasn’t a singularity in the conventional sense.
I can’t explain the difference without getting into things I’m not supposed to discuss here.
What I can tell you is this:
If time behaves like a network, then changing the past isn’t like moving from one road to another.
It’s more like pulling on one connection and discovering that several others move with it.
That’s why we don’t simply choose the “best” timeline.
And that’s also why the number of jumps doesn’t tell you how close you are to your objective.
I’ve said more than I intended already.
I won’t disappear again. At least, not intentionally.

@J_Titor2036 I heard from another Titor that youre stuck in a time loop so to speak, or atleast he is.

Is there anything any of us can do to help?

@J_Titor2036 If guess perhaps even another way to word it would be why are we still having conversations
