Well according to Einstein’s relativity time is linear, though can be experienced differently it is still linear and here let us only consider the existence of a single timeline for simplicity. So according to my idea of time travel is if a person can travel close to the speed of light it is theoretically possible for the person to travel to the future and this is a one way jump and this is backed up by a lot of theories but to jump back to the past or the initial point of travel, time should be a 2 way path so i strongly beleive that time travel is truly possible but its a one way door and the moment u make the jump it is impossible to jump back or contact us from the future which might also explain why we are never able to prove it as well. What do u guys think?
Welcome to TTI! ![]()
Anyway, I think you might be mistaken about time travel, but that’s just my opinion. There have been numerous theories suggesting that time travel to both the past and future is possible and has deliberately kept secret from the public, and even that a lot of ETs themselves are actually time travelers from the future. There’s so many conflicting stories and so much misinformation out there that it’s hard for many of us to know what to believe!
Don’t say that out loud… lot of naysayers in here. I understand, they want to believe backwards travel could be achieved easily. It cannot. It will be much more difficult and may actually be impossible… however, I never relegate anything into a box labeled IMPOSSIBLE.
Just, far more difficult
More than moving into the future id wanna go back to the past to fix a lot of mistakes and id go to any extent. But the thing ia its just nearly impossible to jump back, it needs more energy than energy required yo jump forward and even the slightest alteration to the past can make huge huge changes to the future which is concerning in my timeline.
Firstly, Hi.
Scientifically, you may be right. But, if you think of it as narrative, or a witnessed account, imagining more timelines is actually simpler than trying to understand what is not possible. If there is only one timeline, then backwards time travel is impossible. Say for example, all the things you would go back and change, personal, local, worldwide, would not affect the timeline you came from. There would be another “you” already there, now having to live life with whatever changes you made. However, only one timeline, and then nothing would make sense, and the endless paradoxes just wouldn’t allow it.
This is called relative velocity time dilation, or kinematic time dilation. There is another type of time dilation. Gravitational time dilation. That is the one I like. There is an example of this type used in the movie Interstellar. The physics in Interstellar was aided by a famous physicist and Nobel recipient named Kip Thorne. Cool name, right? ![]()
Hi there, i did not rule out the possibility of parellel timelines and the thing is if we consider its existence when i go back in time im jumping into another parallel world which is never really useful cause when i jump back to my present there would be no difference. And also the concept of time travel itself is a puzzule its too complicated to be real.
I know you are probably expecting a shallow, snarky and arrogant response like, “It really isn’t that complicated” ![]()
But you are correct, it is complicated. Not going to downplay that. However, one timeline makes it beyond complicated.
Grandfather paradox for example. Go back in time and kill your grandpa and then you disappear, no, because you never existed in the first place.
Now, do the same thing but with a branching timeline. What you have changed is that you will not exist in that alternate timeline, and that is pretty messed up of you to do that. Shame on you. But it won’t actually change anything about “you”. Only the other “you”. The other you that was prevented from being born, and probably a slew of other changes caused by your interference. From there the scientific, philosophical, ethical, and anti-deterministic implications are endless.
No i wasn’t expecting the reply “ It really isn’t that complicated” it is and I am fully aware and I’m not gonna go to the extent of killing my grandpa its just little little fixes like things I could’ve told someone things i should’ve not etc. Secondly if i were to be ashamed of thinking about fixing things and in turn making it hard for my other self then each and everyone of us should be ashamed of thinking about time travel. Cause the idea of time travel itself is originated from our guilts and regrets which opposes ethical and deterministic ideas like : “Wish i could go back in time and fix it” or “ Only if i never said/ did tht” etc and so the base of time travel is built on these regrets and guilts even though there are other motives as well.
I was only just kidding; I didn’t mean it literally. I was just giving you an example. Tone is hard to convey with text, my bad. Yet, I completely agree with you. There was a remake of the movie The Time Machine that was based on the book by H.G Wells going back over century ago. The main protagonist in the book, who is only known as The Time Traveler is on a quest for discovery and to feed his scientific curiosity. But the author, Wells, he has a different agenda. He is warning society of what mistakes ‘we’ are destined to make based on the direction we are heading. Wells is a forward thinker, so naturally instead of wishing to go back and fix things, instead attempts to prevent.
Most people only want to go backwards. But some people have a plan and need to go forward to bring someone backwards. There are many different intentions.
Sorry mahn maybe i interpreted the tone wrong but yeah i get ur point and the thing is life is a one time experience and comes with a lot of mistakes. To fix some i really wish time travel was real
Go forward and fixing things or bringing tech to the present creates classic time travel paradoxes which is kinda disappointing tbh cause all tht future tech bringing to the present or fixing future is one great idea.
The key is staying in the same timeline, using markers and anchors.
True but if you really observe around you, you can actually feel like even the markers and anchors holding you and the reality are manipulating the reality.
Love the idea there. Sometimes you must move forward if you want to go back… this is a constant, at least in this dimension. Doesnt apply to everything but just sometimes, it is necessary. ![]()
Awesome, however the Milkdromeda merger is 4 billion years distant… it will be an interesting era in this area of space. Im curious if the merger could become catastrophic, in an intensified gravitational field, caused by the central blackhole merger.
What are the masses again? Merging blackholes resonate through space, same as a wave on the pond oscilates when a pebble is tossed in. This could cause weird time shifts…
Could you imagine oscillating between today and yesterday, repeatedly as the waves propagate and spread out through the galaxy?!
Too weird…
Perhaps time runs backwards in the area where both gravity wells overlap? Time could be a function of mass approaching a singularity on its orbital plane, like the head of a record player traveling towards the center of a record.
Possibly. Idk, I do like NIN though… Downward Spiral is classic! Id really enjoy reliving those days. But there were some bad times too. I dont care to relive that. The FUTURE is really the only thing to look forward to. The past has already been recorded. You’re right in one aspect, it is like a record. In fact it is a record. I understand this isn’t where you were going with this… no need to correct me, I get it.
The Akashic Record. Maybe there is something to it? The Dropa Discs… maybe something, maybe not… interesting however.
Remember the scene in The Time Machine, with Rod Taylor and Yvette Mimieux? The one with the “Talking Discs”, tens of thousands of years old? The book is actually way better… that part is actually extended.
You want to talk forward travel, you know where to find me. As I said twice already in these forums and through direct reply to other inquiries and “speculation”, Sometimes you must go forward to go back… if you’re absolutely sure you want to go back.
No offense intended. But we all are aware, reverse is very very difficult to pull off.
Its risky to move forward, because reverse seems to be impossible at least, right now. But I dont think we will ever figure it out, if we don’t move ahead a few paces.
