Of course the use of applied nannotechnology has a zillion applications, but in order to create an efficient portable power supply for a portablte "Time Machine" (if one were to be created.) we must explore what nannotechnology has to offer.

Dr. Rhoads provided an excellent introduction to nanotechnology and discussed some of its applications. He began by giving his audience an understanding of nano scale by illustrating a range of positive and negative exponential functions of the number "10." A nanosecond is one billionth of a second. In scaling up to understand better, he stated that a billion seconds is about 31.7 years.

Dr. Rhoads then asked the question "Why does structure at fine scale interest people?" It is because fine scale structure changes the properties of materials and the performance of devices at human scale. He talked about nylon and silk, stated how they were almost identical in chemistry, and that the development of nylon, an artificial material, was one of the great triumphs of polymer chemistry in this century. Nylon has more strength than silk and its surface is smooth. To create an evening gown, use silk. To make a parachute, use nylon.

He then made a similar comparison of iron and steel, and talked about how without changing composition, steel can be made softer or harder just by heat-treating, or cold-working. The steel industry, in fact, is based upon controlling materials' properties by controlling the microstructure.

Dr. Rhoads also talked about bullet proof glass, a product obtained by chemical tempering of the molecular structure. It is created by chemical tempering to compress the molecular structure of the surface to such a degree that almost nothing can penetrate it and it is almost impossible to break. He stated that nanotechnology could just as well be called "molecular technology."

He then cited fibers as an example of milli-scale structure, metals as an example of micro-scale structure, and glass as an example of a nano-scale structure. He pointed out how in all three cases, structure at fine scale controls properties at the human scale.

In discussing microtechnology and nanotechnology in today's world, Dr. Rhoads described how microtechnology is used widely in electronics, and in applications of the chemical, physical, mechanical and electromechanical. Nanotechnology is beginning to come into its own.

He showed a slide describing electronics microtechnology as an enabling technology for transportation in such applications as smart sensors and microcontrollers for air bags, smart antilock brakes, and engine controls for fuel efficiency and pollution reduction. He talked of how communications information controllers and microcontrollers are used in cell phones, GPS receivers, automatic toll collection, positive train control, Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems and in air traffic control. He discussed some uses of smart sensors, microcontrollers, communications information controllers, and talked of other microtechnologies and their applications in mechanical, electromechanical, physical, optical, and chemical areas.

Dr. Rhoads then shifted to a consideration of water and its nano-scale properties, the area of his research at MIT. He talked of water's unique and useful properties, and some of its important uses, all of which are common knowledge. He mentioned the phenomenon of the aqueous double-layer with water, which means that at every interface between water and other substances, at least one nano-scale structure forms, i.e., the aqueous double-layer. Water becomes "amazingly" different at this interface, i.e., it has a lower dielectric constant, exhibits radically changed solvation properties, and has highly oriented molecules. Dr. Rhoads concluded by talking of the nano-scale structure of water under an electric field induced orientation.

The next few paragraphs provide a brief introduction to the core concepts of molecular nanotechnology, followed by links to further reading.
Manufactured products are made from atoms. The properties of those products depend on how those atoms are arranged. If we rearrange the atoms in coal we can make diamond. If we rearrange the atoms in sand (and add a few other trace elements) we can make computer chips. If we rearrange the atoms in dirt, water and air we can make potatoes.
Todays manufacturing methods are very crude at the molecular level. Casting, grinding, milling and even lithography move atoms in great thundering statistical herds. It's like trying to make things out of LEGO blocks with boxing gloves on your hands. Yes, you can push the LEGO blocks into great heaps and pile them up, but you can't really snap them together the way you'd like.

In the future, nanotechnology will let us take off the boxing gloves. We'll be able to snap together the fundamental building blocks of nature easily, inexpensively and in almost any arrangement that we desire. This will be essential if we are to continue the revolution in computer hardware beyond about the next decade, and will also let us fabricate an entire new generation of products that are cleaner, stronger, lighter, and more precise.

I think we need to take a closer look at this nanotechnology.

Nanotechnology, can also be used as a mind control scheme by the government. I guess after all the tries over the years with drugs and hypnosis, they finally refined their efforts and developed small enough robots small enough to enter the brain and replicate our thoughts and them selves. And capable of sending the information wireless to a database.

Again, where does that leave our freewill at? When the government is imposing their means of control on us, why are we letting it? It's like a wireless leash they have us on, and we don't know it or do a thing about it. But when we cross their boarder, we'll get zapped.

Except it won't feel like it. It will slowly ease your mind unto something else, so you won't suspect it.

Nanoscale motors

Nanobiotechnologists at Cornell University have built and pilot-tested the first biomolecular motors with tiny metal propellers. Success in fabricating and operating hybrid organic-inorganic nanodevices the size of virus particles is reported by the Cornell team of biophysicists and engineers in the Nov. 24 issue of the journal Science .

Fueled by adenosine triphosphate (ATP, the so-called energy of cellular life) and spinning nickel propellers at eight revolutions per second, molecular motors made of ATPase enzyme are said to herald a new generation of ultrasmall, robotic, medical devices: "nanonurses" that move about the body, ministering to its needs, for example, or "smart pharmacies" that detect chemical signals from body cells, calculate the dose and precisely dispense drugs.

"With this demonstration, we believe we are defining a whole new technology," said Carlo D. Montemagno, associate professor of biological engineering and leader of the molecular-motor mechanics. "We have shown that hybrid nanodevices can be assembled, maintained and repaired using the physiology of life."

Montemagno credited Cornell graduate student Ricky K. Soong with assembling the propeller-equipped nanodevices and noted that patent applications are in place for the relevant technologies.

Other Cornell authors of the Science report, titled "Powering an Inorganic Nanodevice with a Biomolecular Motor," are research associates George D. Banchand and Hercules P. Neves; graduate student Anatoli G. Olkhovets; and Harold G. Craighead, professor of applied and engineering physics and director of the Cornell Nanobiotechnology Center. Nanobiotechnology is the relatively new enterprise to merge living systems, including products of genetic engineering, with fabricated nonliving materials, such as silicon, at the "nano" scale, where a nanometer (nm) equals one billionth of a meter. The Cornell molecular motors have propellers about 750 nm in length and 150 nm in diameter (whereas viruses range from about 17 nm to 1,000 nm wide).

The little metal propellers were made at the Cornell Nanofabrication Facility using a sequence of techniques, including electron gun evaporation, e-beam lithography and isotropic etching. Thin coatings of attachment chemicals, described in detail in the journal article, encouraged the propellers essentially to self-assemble with molecules of ATPase, which were produced from genetically altered Bacillus bacteria. Mounted on 200-nm-high pedestals and immersed in a solution of ATP and other chemicals, some of the biomolecular motors spun their propellers for two-and-a-half hours.

But before the nanodevices take flight, "We need to achieve a higher level of site occupancy," said Montemagno, noting that "only" five of the first 400 propeller-equipped motors worked. Some propellers came loose and flew off. Some motors apparently dropped off their test pedestals and others never took their places in the first place.

Eventually, the Cornell nanobiotechnologists would like to engineer biomolecular motors to run on light energy, with photons instead of ATP. They also plan to add computational and sensing capabilities to the nanodevices, which ideally should be able to self-assemble inside human cells.

Cornell scientists are learning to clean away caustic chemicals left over from the nanofabrication processes with inorganic materials so that delicate living molecules are not hindered. Then there is the clumping problem: "These machines are as small as virus particles," Montemagno said. "It's hard to prevent them from clumping together. Remember, this is all new for us -- and for everyone else in this line of work."

Belief systems, rather than experiential observations, predominate. Most of the population seems to be asleep, on a social and genetic "autopilot". A great number of individuals, however, are not asleep, and view the system with either contempt or mixed amusement.

Contrary to popular social belief systems which portray reality is being mono-dimensional and mono-density, populated by bodies who walk, talk and interact, the nature of reality is quite different and more expansive. Reality is an infinite multi-nested complex of overlapping energies, intents and purposes, within which a "dance" of consciousness and spiritual being occurs. "Life on Earth" is a miniscule "grain of sand on the beach" . The "reality" picture humans are fed in terms of commercial media is both synthetic and suppressive, for the population, the planet, and all incarnated Spirit interacting on it.

How did it get this way, anyway? We examine many things on this website, including how subjective social reality perspectives are programmed into a population through cultural paradigms, how these are constructed and how they can be seen through. We examine a lot of suppressed information, alternative reality viewpoints, and add in contemporaneous discussions on the objective aspects of how realities, both local and general, appear to be laid out, based on experience involving non-local movement of consciousness and being and other sources, for your general evaluation, so that you may relate it to your own experience or use it to further your own experience, in the search for Self and a more accurate picture of reality.

We examine historical events and timelines, people, places and most importantly ideas, for ideas and information are what will shift the current stage of activity from one of conflict and polarity, to one of balance. This planet is the way it is at any one time, and because it is the way it is, we are all here to experience and learn "what not to do and how not to live", as well as personal objectives on a more expansive Spiritual basis. We are not so much here to "change the world", but to help make it possible for many of us to change ourselves, align with our higher Spiritual nature, and create something better together, that we would all prefer, in order to allow progressive evolution to take place more quickly. Just to add a small(haha) note] it was finally anounced last week that nanabots have been introduced into human subjects with successful results! I WANT MY NANABOTS!
I don't know exactly how nanotech fits into the time travel theme other than to say that it has the potential to get into everything. I'm not at all convinced that the adverage joe will survive the advent of nanobot.

If the PC-internet revolution were a sneeze, then nanotech will be a fullblown on-your-back case of double pneumonia. Nanotech is all we need to bring in the golden age of Orwells' 1984.

If you assume an unbroken advance in thechnology the future is clear. You will either control your own army of nanobots or the other guys nanobots will be having you for lunch. And this is best case. If the worse case comes, well there won't be anything left to worry about anyway.
