United States Presidential Election, 1972

Introduction

This is a revision of the United States presidential election of 1972, the year of Republican President Richard Nixon’s landslide reelection against Democrat George McGovern.

In the 1972 election of the current timeline, Nixon received close to 61% of the popular vote compared to about 37.5% for McGovern. This revised version of history makes the 1972 landslide a little wider. In this revision, Nixon has barely over 61% of the popular vote compared to McGovern’s 37.2%, for a victory margin of close to 24%.

I’m doing this because since I recorded each state county-by-county in this election, I had to adjust some of the counties to go more toward Nixon’s favor, to pave the way for the Reagan landslides, which will stand as the most massive landslides in the 20th century.

The revised election below is organized state-by-state in alphabetical order, for a total of 50 states plus the District of Columbia.
