The Arcade is where the Institute keeps the games it has recovered from the old web — the ones that ran in a browser tab at work, on a school library machine, on a Pentium in somebody’s parents’ study.
Each game gets one topic. The game itself sits at the top of it; the thread underneath is an ordinary thread.
The scoreboard is the tab beside the game. Scores file under your forum handle, so signing in is the only way onto a board. You do not have to sign in to play — the game works either way — but an anonymous run is not recorded.
Some of these are the original files, still running. Others had to be rebuilt, because the thing they ran on is gone — Flash does not exist any more, and a 1991 Windows binary does not open in a tab. Where a game has been rebuilt, it is rebuilt from the original’s own artwork and its own numbers rather than approximated by eye.
