I long for the days when a time traveller is some dumbfuck who doesn't know a wit about their machine, how they got here, or why they are here. In fact, I add to that list the fact that they aren't even cogniscant of being here.

We sent a chimp into space before a human. Doc Brown sent his dog a minute into the future. 
There was a guy a while back that claimed to be an unwilling participant in a time travel experiment. He said he was basically a janitor at the facility and, since being sent to the past, had lived in our history for some time. Life extension had been perfected before he was born a couple hundred years from now. Sad story.
